Home Pest Control
Solutions
No home is free from pests. Here are some
of the most common home pests we usually see or have in
our homes and some simple home pest control
tips.
Ants
Ants can be
anywhere in our home where they can find food and water.
And they can be a real nuisance. Although ants perform
many useful functions in our environment, such as feeding
on other pests they also can be a real menace on outdoor
plants.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches
are mainly attracted to the food preparation and storage
areas in our homes. They contaminate food and eating
utensils and impart stains and unpleasant odours to
surfaces they come into contact with. People are repulsed
when they see cockroaches in their homes.
Cockroaches, in
particular
the German cockroach – the most common of the indoor
species -, are believed to be capable of transmitting
disease-causing organisms. They also are known to cause
an allergy risk for some people.
Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes
are small annoying flying insects that often bite. Female
mosquitos require blood from humans or other animals to
develop eggs. Mosquito larvae live and grow in areas
where there is still standing water, eg. flower pots,
ponds, etc.
Although
the majority of mosquito bites don’t pose a health threat
to people, mosquitoes can transmit diseases such as
malaria (in tropical areas), West Nile virus (USA) and
Ross River fever (Australia).
Flies
The little
house flies, often congregating in patios and other
outside areas, are not considered significant carrier of
diseases. The common house fly is another story. As they
feed and breed on animal waste and decaying organic
material they play an important role in the transmission
of diseases to people and animals. They carry bacteria
and viruses that cause diseases such as diarrhea, food
poisoning, dysentery, cholera, eye
infections.
Rodents
Rodents are
found in and around homes, buildings, farms, gardens and
open fields. They consume and contaminate food meant for
humans, pets, livestock and other animals. Rodents cause
considerable damage to the structures of buildings and
properties and they transmit diseases.
Other
insects that are very hard to get rid off and often pose
a threat to our health and to that of our families are:
bed bugs, fleas, ticks and more.
There are
several solutions to home pest control problems. Usually,
home pest infestations are not as extensive as farm or
building pests because their range is not as big, unless
you have an old house that has been around for several
years. Old houses are very nice candidates for home pest
control problems because the pests may have already
settled in to the old house.
Simple and
Easy Solutions To The Problem
There are
many solutions to home pest control crises. Some are
humane solutions that only scare away the rodents or
other animals that bother you while others poison them to
get rid of them permanently. These drastic solutions are
usually employed when the pests are too many and too much
trouble already.
Insecticides need to be handled with care because these
can be fatal for people, children and pets. Do not store
these home pest control solutions in places where
children and pets can get to them.
